Having already teased CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and THE AVENGERS 2, producer Kevin Feige has now turned his attention to THOR: THE DARK WORLD and ANT-MAN.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Feige has indicated that, as was the case with Tony Stark in IRON MAN 3, the battle of New York has also taken its toll on Thor (Chris Hemsworth), namely in his relationship with adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
“Alan [Taylor] is bringing a grittier, more visceral, more textured patina to the designs of the worlds, and to Asgard in particular. It’s less to chase either Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings — because you’re not going to catch up. But part of the fun of Thor over the other characters is he doesn’t have to stay on Earth. We visit a few of the other realms in this new movie.”
Thor won’t be visiting those realms on his own, either, with the trailer showing that Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will this time follow him to Asgard, and beyond. The interview is accompanied by a new image from the production, which can be seen below.
With regards to Edgar Wright’s ANT-MAN, the film currently slated to launch ‘Phase II’, Feige has given some indication of the film’s status. Predating ‘Marvel’s Cinematic Universe’, the original script is now in the process of being re-written to better integrate it into the studio’s shared universe. As for casting:
“We’ve talked about various names over the past eight years but as you can imagine they keep changing as time goes by. But towards the end of this year, we’ll buckle down and start casting and start refining the script, which is great and which is very Edgar. He has done a great job being incredibly true to the comics but is putting his own spin on it, so we’ll be drawing on multiple mythologies for this one.”
THOR: THE DARK WORLD will open in the UK on the 30th of October of this year, with ANT-MAN set to follow up THE AVENGERS 2 in late 2o15.
