‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ gets a new writer

We reported late last week that Robert Downey Jr mentioned that a new Sherlock Holmes movie may go into production later this year – well, now the trades are revealing that a new writer has boarded the project to rewrite the screenplay.

Iron Man 3‘s Drew Pearce carved out the initial screenplay for Sherlock Holmes 3, but now screenwriter James Coyne has been hired by Warner Brothers to do a rewrite. Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and director Guy Ritchie are all expected to reunite for the big-budget project, which will follow on from the events of Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows, which was released back in 2011.

Coyne wrote Treasure Island, a spec script that hit the Blacklist last year, so reports Deadline, who bagged the news of Coyne’s involvement.

No news on when the screenplay will be ready for shooting, but Downey Jr is set to head to Spider-Man: Homecoming next, which will hit cinemas next summer.
