Todd Phillips’ comedy THE HANGOVER continues to break records, this time on the home formats as it becomes the best selling comedy movie ever. The film has sold a massive 8.6 million units in North America since its release on December 15th, 2009. It has surpassed the previous record holder, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, and looks like it will shift another million copies by the time the summer hits.
During its cinema run, THE HANGOVER earned $467 million worldwide — $277 domestically — making it the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time.
It is also up for the Golden Globe for Best Picture (musical/comedy).
