The Escape From New York remake is moving along very nicely…

Great news for all fans of John carpenter and Escape From New York in particular as it looks like the remake of the eighties classic is heading for the screen faster than expected. NY Mag’s Vulture is reporting that screenwriter Allan Loeb, the guy who rescued the upcoming Wall Street sequel nailed the script for the new Snake Plissken adventure.

Loeb nailed the humor in Plissken without slipping into camp, and he changed Snake’s rescue-mission target from a president to a female senator, thereby upping the banter quotient. But just as big a factor was economic: They found a much cheaper way to turn Manhattan into a giant prison.

The word is that John Carpenter himself has also stated specific things could not be changed for the remake. Those things being that Plissken “must be called ‘Snake'”; “must wear an eye patch”; and that he would “always be a ‘bad-ass.'”

I loved the original movie and the sequel… Escape From L.A… not so much. But I’m pretty amped for the remake/ reboot, or whatever we’re calling it these days.

Hit it here for more at Vulture.
