FYI.. In 2005, Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko created Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show became a huge success and went on for three seasons.
The show is advertised by Nickelodeon as “set in a fantastical Asian world” and is described by the writers themselves as taking place in “an ancient, fantastical Asian environment, primarily Chinese.”
I for one am not going to watch this film (theaters, bluray, rental, cable, tv) and will be encouraging friends and family to do the same across the globe. I’m tired of Hollywood white washing. White is good. Black is evil. That’s just wrong.

Contrary to what aznman says, it is also important to remember that the two creators where put on as producers and approved the current cast. As well the cast hasn’t been “white-washed.” Here are some charachters, all of them major, that are not being played by white actors: Zuko, Haru, Suki, Iroh, the Kyoshi Warriors, etc. Furthermore the Aang in the original cartoon did not have dark skin and Noah Ringer, the white actor cast, looks undeniably like Aang. This “race-bending” movement is nothing but silliness, and easily proven false.

Call it ‘HATE-bending’. That’s exactly what it is. Some people out there are trying to sabotage Shyamalan. These people will bend, twist everthing into anything to make things hard for shyamalan. This race issue’s been created by the same people to hurt this movie. No studio is going to give any director $250 million to make a trilogy starting a chinese boy because that’s how movies ARE made in hollywood, with white caste mostly. Times ARE changing though but not yet anyways. Even the Chinese govt won’t spend $250 million on movie with non-white caste. It isn’t racism silly, it’s plain CAPITALISM. And that’s exactly what these ‘hatebenders’ to trying to target; the capital potential of this movie for shyamalan. NOBODY is comlaining ‘Prince of Persia’ starring a white guy. Is there? Simply because there isn’t anybody racially targeting it’s director.
