You have got to love the confidence of Harvey Weinstein, executive producer on Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Weinstein recently hooked up with the LA Times and gave his predictions for the Best Picture Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards. Guess which film he picked?
“We’re going to win Best Picture,” Harvey said. “This is the movie people love and it’s Quentin’s time. We are going for it and we are gonna get it.”
Weinstein was referring to Tarantino’s ‘Basterds’, and he is apparently going all out to make sure the film wins on Oscar night.
“Look, best director may be a question — and you can quote me on that — but we won the SAG award for best ensemble, actors are the biggest branch in the academy and they love the movie.”
I just saw The Hurt Locker for the first time today. Now, that movie is an excellent movie but do I think that it will win? Well, no. I would love Tarantino to get it as I loved Inglourious Basterds but deep down I donl’t think that the Academy will ignore the bohemoth that is Jim Cameron’s Avatar. We’ll have to wait and see.
