District 9 star Sharlto Copley is set to headline I Am Number Four for Dreamworks. The film is an adaptation of the upcoming young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes.
The Heat Vision blog reports that Alex Pettyfer, he who is in the upcoming Beastly opposite Vanessa Hudgens, will play the title role of Number Four, ‘one of nine aliens who escape their home planet before its annihilation by a rival species and hide out on Earth disguised as human high schoolers,’ while Copley will play ‘a man who hailed from the alien world’s serving class but now is the title character’s adult guardian and mentor.’
I Am Number Four is part of a planned six-book series by HarperCollins Children’s Books. it will be released later this year.
Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) penned the adaptation for the studio, while D.J. Caruso directs and none other than Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg produce.
