Inception does the business and becomes the number one movie in America

This weekend Christopher Nolan did the impossible. He blew our minds quite literally with his new movie Inception, wowed the critics and impressed with its three day haul. Yes, Inception is the number one movie in North America this weekend taking in a massive $60.5 million in studio estimates, easily beating Jerry Bruckheimer’s new release The Sorcerer’s Apprentice which debuted at the number three spot with $17.3m. Sitting quite nicely in between was the animated epic Despicable Me, which took a not-too-shabby £32.7m over the three days since Friday.

If you want to know how The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is going, well it’s still sitting at number four with $13.5 million in the bank, bringing its total haul to$264.9 million. Toy Story 3 rounded up the top five with $11.7m in takings.

A great weekend for the movies. We’ll be back tomorrow with the UK numbers.
