Why We Like It: Based on an amazing play by Patrick Marber. The film features some fine acting from all four central characters, particularly Clive Owen…. Classic scenes, classic dialogue, excellently executed, written and directed… Everyone will be able to relate to the issues raised in Mike Nichols’ big-screen version of Closer. Note; Marber also wrote the screenplay from his play.

The Best Bit: Owen confronts Julia Roberts about her infidelity. “That’s the spirit, thank you. Thank you for your honesty. Now fuck off and die you fucked up slag! ”

Interestingly, at the beginning of filming, Natalie Portman gave Julia Roberts a necklace that said “cunt” in honor of their characters’ foul mouths. At the end of filming, Roberts gave Portman a necklace that said “lil’ cunt”. Potty mouths.
