Seeing as the video games series has made around $2 billion, I have absolutely no idea why Microsoft is holding back on making a big screen version of Halo. Well, we heard that the film was put on hold a while back, but what of the state of the project right now?
Well, Variety have posted a nice little article up on their online site which states that Microsoft is still developing potential scripts by Alex Garland, Stuart Beattie, D.B. Weiss and Josh Olson.
Franchise Development Director Frank O’ Connor spoke to the trade about said potential movie.
“We’re still interested in making an excellent ‘Halo’ movie,” O’Connor said. “We’ve created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film. We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won’t move on it until there’s a great reason to do it. We’re in no particular hurry.”
Well, I think that Halo fans across the planet will agree that we do indeed want a decent film, but we really, really , really want to see it sooner rather than later.
In addition, we are hearing from O’Connor that the film, whenever it hits, will be a stand alone story and not a “a verbatim retelling of the game.”
The company are also eyeing the TV market as another potential avenue for a Halo project.
What do you guys think?
