It seems that Terry Gilliam‘s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is forever doomed as today Variety report that funding for the film has fallen through yet again.
Gilliam is out at the Deauville Film Festival where the trade caught up with him.
When asked about the project, that has in the past had Johnny Depp, Robert Duvall and Ewan McGregor attached to it, the director said: “The financing collapsed about a month and a half ago,”
“I shouldn’t be here. The plan was to be shooting ‘Quixote’ right now.”
Gilliam did add however, that he still wants to make the movie.
“Robert Duvall is Quixote, Ewan McGregor is also there, and we are looking for new financing right now,” he said.
I really hope that Gilliam gets to make his movie as this has been a labour of love for years for him. Remember that excellent documentary Lost In La Mancha that chronicles the making (or indeed downfall) of Gilliam’s first attempt to make the film? See the original trailer below.
