I must admit, I didn;t even realise that Robin Hardy was even making a semi-sequel to his classic 1970’s horror The Wicker Man, but true, her has, in the form of The Wicker Tree.
Having done a little bit of digging around I have discovered that the film is a kid of reimagining of The Wicker Man, and according to the mighty IMDb, revolves around ‘young Christians Beth and Steve, a gospel singer and her cowboy boyfriend, who leave Texas to preach door-to-door in Scotland . When, after initial abuse, they are welcomed with joy and elation to Tressock, the border fiefdom of Sir Lachlan Morrison, they assume their hosts simply want to hear more about Jesus. How innocent and wrong they are.’
Sounds a lot like the original, with a few bits an pieces changed here and there. I love the original, and I think that Christopher Lee (who cameos in this new film)was just amazing in it. As for Neil LaBute‘s remake with Nicolas Cage? Well, we won’t mention that.
Anyway, The Wicker Tree now has a trailer online, which you can watch via the embedded player below.
