Portman Offered The Lead in Cuaron’s Gravity

Natalie Portman has reportedly been offered the lead role in Gravity, the Alfonso Cuaron directed film which saw the recent departure of one Angelina Jolie. We can only assume that Portman has been offered the same role in the film, which is also written by Cuaron and his brother Jonas.

The film centers on a woman stranded on a space station after satellite debris slams into it and wipes out the rest of the crew. Robert Downey Jr. has also commited to star in the film in a supporting role.

Portman, according to the trade, will make her decision in regards to role shortly.

The 3D film is budgeted at around $80 million. Shooting will kick off in January 2011.
