Warner Brothers are set to delve into the past to film the origins of the infamous gangster Al Capone in a new film based on a screenplay entitled Cicero by Walon Green.
The script is set to chart “Capone’s rise from the slums of Brooklyn to the head of the criminal underworld in Chicago during Prohibition, when his gang operated casinos and speakeasies throughout the city. In order to operate outside Chicago city limits, the gangster set up headquarters in suburban Cicero, Ill., where he famously took over the city government in 1924.”
The studio have previously brought Capone’s story to the big-screen in the 1959 movie which stars Rod Steiger.
Capone is soon to be seen on the small screen, played by Brit Stephen Graham in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, which debuts next week.
