Ole Bornedal (pictured), director of JUST ANOTHER LOVE STORY and DELIVER US FROM EVIL, is set to burst onto the Hollywood scene after he has landed the job of directing the horror thriller DIBBUK BOX in the works at Sam Raimi’s Ghost House production company.
The story, adapted from an LA Times article called A Jink in a Box, is apparently based on real events (make your own minds up about how real exactly) that occurred when a family discovered a box which they think contained a curse. Almost unbelievably, the real-life box was thought to contain a dibbuk – an evil spirit of Jewish folklore, and it was sold on eBay by the worried owners back in 2004. Yes, seriously.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate is hoping to get production rolling in January 2011. Whilst a movie about a box containing a malevolent demon doesn’t have me hyperventilating with excitement, it seems that with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert producing, this horror/thriller could be real interesting. If it’s done in the same vein as DRAG ME TO HELL, I’d certainly be standing in line for the first available ticket. How about you?
