Tony Scott HAS signed for Top Gun 2!

We reported a little while ago that Paramount Pictures had made an offer to both director Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer to bring a sequel to their 1980’s high-octane actioner TOP GUN to the big scree. Well alas, it seems that Scott has already signed on to the project!

Speaking on the promotional rounds for new movie UNSTOPPABLE, Scott told Hitfix:

“I’m not waiting for a script [by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects)]. I’m going to do my homework. I’m going down to Fallon, Nevada, it’s a whole different world now,” He told the site.

So how come he signed so quickly? Well, this ‘personal experience’ might be a factor.

“These computer geeks — these kids play war games in a trailer in Fallon, Nevada and if we ever went to war or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones. They are unmanned aircraft. They operate them and then they party all night.”

Okay. Here’s the bad new. Scott failed to comment on whether Maverick (Tom Cruise) would return or not – but he is excited about the project.

“This world fascinated me, because it’s so different from what it was originally,” Scott said. “But, I don’t want to do a remake.  I don’t want to do a reinvention.  I want to do a new movie.”

We’re excited too Tony. UNSTOPPABLE opens on November 11th.
