MTV recently caught up with the actor on the red carpet where he revealed that he is quite happy with the current state of THE AVENGERS.
He’s just finished reading the script and says “It’s going to be fantastic”, jokingly adding, “Once I tear his script to smithereens and fix it we’ll have a great movie.” Downey has previously been praised by director friend and collaborator Jon Favreau as a “ terrific writer” and some of the improvisation work in both IRON MAN and TROPIC THUNDER was as close to masterful as one may expect.
Glad to hear he’s retained his self-confidence post-rehab.
It’s fairly obvious that he’s kidding, but that’s not to say that there won’t be some difficulties in adapting the much loved Marvel comic series. The director, Joss Whedon, has admitted as much himself although he has said that many of the problems should be smoothed over thanks to having such a stellar cast.
“What I think ultimately defines Marvel Studios was the first thing they did and that was cast Robert Downey Jnr”, said Whedon back in September 2010, “ They said ‘what if we got great actors and let them have some time to be the people they’re supposed to be instead of going through the motions”.
News has been fairly thin on THE AVENGERS so far but then we are still a few months away from principle photography yet…
