Bernal and Pacino attached to boxing biopic Hands of Stone

According to The Wrap, Gael Garcia Bernal is set to play boxer Roberto Duran in a new film called HANDS OF STONE. Jonathan Jakubowicz, will write, direct and produce.

The site says that the film, a biopic, will focus on the boxing champion Duran, and will tell the inside story of the “No Mas” fight. On that occassion, the third time that Duran fought Sugar Ray Leonard in 1980, Duran turned his back to Leonard and quit, saying “No Mas” (“no more” in Spanish).

Al Pacino is also in talks to play boxing trainer Ray Arcel, according to producer Ben Silverman, who told the site:

“This is a big opportunity. The Latin American population over-indexes in terms of sports and boxing. There’s a lot of momentum around the script that Jonathan wrote.”
