David Lynch Turns His Hand To “Moody Blues” Music

One of the most highly-regarded directors in the movie business has moved away from films to focus on a new passion, at least for a while.

Whilst it’s not the first time David Lynch has ventured into this area of creativity (he worked on the Dark Night of the Soul project with Dangermouse and Sparklehorse), the L.A. Times has reported that Lynch is again having a go at music, specifically the “modern blues”. According to Lynch:

“We’re working on a lot of things, and we hope to have an album soon, […] All of this to me is an experiment. We were calling it kind of a modern blues — music based on the blues. It’s led to all sorts of different things, but I really want to do a modern blues album. […] There’s nothing I can say in terms of what the rules are, but there is a feel, […] It has to be anchored in something strong and pure, and it’s modern in that it’s joining with all the things you can do these days in ProTools. […] The advancement in digital things means there’s a whole slew of possibilities, […] I love organic phenomena. I love the real, rough sound of blues. I love a heavy guitar and great, strong drums. Then there’s so many things that can be done to it that will modernize it.”

Lynch has signed to the Sunday Best label and is planning to release an album, helped along by his favourite film engineer, Dean Hurley. For a little taste of what to expect, listen to the electronic “Good Day Today”. Both this single and another called “I Know” will be available on iTunes.
