Universal and De Laurentiis co. to remake Stephen King’s Firestarter

Universal are looking to remake a classic horror movie from the 1980’s, the Drew Barrymore starrer FIRESTARTER. The flick is going to see the Dino De Laurentiis Co. team with the studio and Mark L. Smith, who will write the script.

The 1984 film saw the Drew Barrymore character as the central role of someone who was able to start fires at will. The stand alone original is now being developed for a franchise at Universal, according to Variety.

The original was based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

No further details were available on the plot structure for the new version.
