A Serbian Film seized in police raid on Blockbuster!

I haven’t seen A SERBIAN FILM. Don’t really want to either. Fordy has, and he didn’t particularly sing its praises as I recall. Anyway, the film, which has something to do with ‘snuff’ movies, has been removed from video store shelves in Blockbuster in Northampton after a member of the public complained over scenes of, obviously fictional, child abuse.

DogAteMyWookie picked up the story. It seems that Blockbuster have removed the title from their current stock until further notice. The local police authority issues a statement:

We received information from a member of the public that a copy of The Serbian Film at a branch of Blockbusters in Northampton contained images of child abuse.

We have a duty to investigate such claims and in agreement with the manager of the shop took a copy away to view and check that it was the edition that has been approved by the British Board of Film Classification for distribution.

It has been established as a legitimate copy of the film that has been approved for distribution by the BBFC and so is being returned to the shop.

Blockbuster and Revolver Entertainment declined to comment.

Pointless censorship and a waste of police time. Regardless of the content and taste of the film, the DVD has been passed (with cuts) by the British Board of Film Classification and you can see it on sale in places like HMV. People wondering why robbers and burglars aren’t being caught by the police need look no further than this knee-jerk reaction episode.
