John Woo’s classic 1989 movie The Killer is set to get the big Hollywood remake treatment, according to Variety. The trade reports that the legendary Hing Kong filmmaker will produce the film himself, with John H. Lee (A Moment To Remember) to direct.
I loved the original, and along with Hard Boiled believe that the film is one of Woo’s best. It is famous for its visual style and operatic gunfights, something that surely cannot be created by anyone other that Woo himself?
Jung Woo-Sung (The Good, the Bad, the Weird) will star in the remake, which revolves around a central character who has to do everything that he can to protect a singer that he accidentally blinded.
Woo said: “While all my films are special to me, The Killer is truly one of my favorites. We are thrilled to reinvent it as an English-language film and know it’s in capable hands by the incredible visual style and tender emotion John H. Lee brings to all his films.”
The new film will also be released in 3D. Check out the original’s trailer below.
