The Hobbit to start shooting next month… at last

The Hobbit is finally due to start filming on Monday 21 March, after suffering numerous setbacks.

“Despite some delays we are fully back on track and very excited to get started,” director Peter Jackson said.

Shooting was put back numerous times for reasons including a row over actors’ wages, original director Benicio Del Toro pulling out and, most recently, Jackson undergoing surgery for a stomach ulcer.

Filming will take place in Stone Street Studios and on location in New Zealand. Martin Freeman is playing Bilbo Baggins, and Saoirse Ronan recently joined the cast as elf warrior Itaril.
