Berlin: Tayrona Entertainment pick up US distribution rights to Roland Joffe’s ‘There Be Dragons’

U.S. film financing and distribution company Tayrona Entertainment has acquired the rights to by two-time Academy Award®-nominee Roland Joffé’s THERE BE DRAGONS in Latin America, where it will be released on 1000 screens before Autumn 2011.  Produced by Ignacio Gómez Sancha, Joffé and Ignacio Núñez, the film is an epic tale of revolutionaries and saints in a time of civil war; a story of love and heroism amid jealousy, hatred and violence; and a heartbreaking drama about the power of forgiveness to break the chains of the past.

Samuel Goldwyn Films will be releasing THERE BE DRAGONS in the U.S. on May 6th, while Aurum Producciones, an Alliance Films company, will release in Spain on March 25.

“We are very pleased to have made this agreement with Tayrona, a dynamic company that understands the value and sensibility of There Be Dragons. Tayrona´s prior connection to Roland on The Mission makes the deal even more attractive,” says producer Ignacio Núñez.

“There Be Dragons is by far Roland Joffé’s best film ever and we’re very proud and honored to now be part of it. We’re totally certain that it will not only become a major success, but also an instant classic of cinema history,” says James Ordonez, President of Tayrona Entertainment.

Wes Bentley leads a talent-packed ensemble that includes Charlie Cox (Stardust), Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), Emmy Award winning actor Derek Jacobi (Gladiator), Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II) and Rodrigo Santoro (300).

THERE BE DRAGONS tells the story of London-based investigative journalist Robert Torres (Scott), who tries to unravel a deadly mystery nearly 70 years in the making that links his father (Bentley) to Josemaría Escrivá (Cox), the founder of Opus Dei. However, Robert hits a wall and discovers that the shocking truth is far more than he bargained for.

Ignacio Núñez and attorney Robert Nau negotiated the deal on behalf of There Be Dragons and James Ordonez and Lars Bjorck for Tayrona.
