Updated: XERXES offered to Guy Ritchie

When the news of 300 prequel, XERXES, the up coming Frank Miller comic, would be adapted into a feature everyone assumed Zack Snyder, the originally director, would be handing the project, but not so. It was released yesterday that Warner Bros have offered the director’s chair to Guy Ritchie.

Snyder is of course pretty busy at the moment, handling preproduction on the Superman reboot, THE MAN OF STEEL. A lot of people thought he would director the prequel after Superman but looks like Warners can’t wait that long and Vulture reports that they want his full attention on their big franchise as sources appartently state that the film has major third act problems.

Snyder wrote the script and talks enthusiastically about the project so he may act as a producer. Ritchie has not settled on the project yet as he is preoccupied with post-production with SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS and looking to possibly directed a remake of CANNONBALL RUN. So only time will tell if he will job on the project.

Update: A rep for Guy Ritchie tells Entertainment Weekly that he has not been offered the  job.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
