Official: DJ Caruso will direct Preacher for Columbia Pictures

There has been buzz all over the Internet today that I Am Number Four director DJ Caruso was up to direct Preacher, based on the Vertigo comic book series, but said rumours were not confirmed. Well, that was the case, until the director himself Tweeted the news that he has indeed signed on the dotted line to helm!

This is what he said on Twitter earlier on:

“My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side and pretty f*cking pumped!

Well, we’re F*cking pumped too Mr. Caruso!

I did a bit of research on the comic book a little earlier on to settle my curious mind. Some facts. The series ran for 66 episodes. They were created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It is regarded as one of the best comic books of all time!

Here’s the synopsis courtesy of this site.

A down and out cursed/blessed southern boy preacher, a hard livin’ Irish vampire and the Preacher’s gunslinging ex grilfriend travel and fight the world to question  The All-Mighty Himself, as to why he quit his sacred task of caring for the world. Along the way a colorful cast of supporting characters walk into the story including a Cowboy who can kill anything, a once suicidally depressed teen who just happens to have a face like an arse, and a zealot assasin by the name of Starr. Buckle up for a crazy ride cause Vertigo’s groundbreaking Preacher is out to get you. Widely regarded as one of the greatest comics titles of all time.
