GI JOE 2 gets a director, should we celebrate?

The answer….. No we should not. Jon M. Chu has been appointed the director of GI JOE 2. Some might know the name from his previous films STEP UP and the Justin Bieber stuff.

Now it isn’t a slight against the director as he must be good at what he does but if Stephen Sommers can’t make GI JOE a fun ride I doubt Chu can. Anyway Paramount seem to be happy with their choice and now have to work hard on re-signing all the old cast which already has Lee Byung-hun who played Storm Shadow cast but now they need to convince Channing Tatum to return which probably won’t be hard. What will most likely be hard is to get Joseph Gordon-Levitt back as Cobra Commander.

Not much is known about the story except this little quote from the Hasbro CEO, Brian Goldner;

Obviously, we know coming out of the first film that the president is an impostor. You might begin with the knowledge of having your president as an impostor. What would that mean? From that, you can tell a very big story without only having to rely on the chronology of the first film.

There is no known release date for the film but lets hope that it never makes it.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
