As we were undergoing our ‘refurb’ last week, news broke that one Shane Black (LETHAL WEAPON, KISS KISS BANG BANG) would be directing the third film in the IRON MAN trilogy, replacing Jon Favreau who helmed the third one. The legendary American screenwriter and director (legendary because he was the first scripter to command a seven figure salary for a single script)m was out and about at the Omaha Film Festival a few days ago, where he spilled some info about the movie to a scooper over at Aint It Cool News.
Here’s their scooper, named Krullboy, with his skinny:
“[Shane Black] is scheduled to meet with Robert Downey Jr. this week when he returns to L.A. Downey will be contributing to the story and Shane will be writing it in addition to directing.
The studio was not happy with the direction Iron Man 2 took. Iron Man 3 will not be another ‘two men in iron suits fighting each other’ film. Instead, it will be more like a Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villians.
Iron Man 3 will be made after The Avengers and will not feature any other heroes from the Marvel Universe. Marvel is only doing crossover characters to lead up to The Avengers, and once that film is released, the plan is to go back to self-containted single-character stories.”
Wow. I haven’t personally seen the second film. Poor reviews and buzz steered me away and pointed a colleague to review for the site. I am excited about the Shane Black Iron Man though…
