GK Films to reboot Lara Croft: Tomb Raider series

According to reports this morning GK Films have acquired the rights to the TOMB RAIDER franchise and are aiming to get a new movie into cinemas in 2013.

The new movie will be rebooted and refocussed, concentrating on the hit Eidos game which first hit stores all of the way back in 1996. The series was turned into a duo of films in the early 2000’s starring Angelina Jolie which grossed a massive $432 million worldwide. Those two movies, released in 2001 and 2003 were based over at Paramount Pictures.

“We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the ‘Tomb Raider’ phenomenon,” said King in a release.

A new origins game is also planned from company Crystal Dynamics.
