The word around the Hollywood camp fire at the moment is that 20th Century Fox and ‘filmmakers of comedy,’ the Farrelly Brothers, are trying to woo Jackass star Johnny Knoxville for the role of Moe Howard in their planned movie THE THREE STOOGES. No official negotiations have started yet, but the word over at Variety is that Knoxville is interested in the part. Once Moe has been cast, the Farrelly’s, Bobby and Peter will zero in on casting the other two, Curly Howard and Larry Fine.
Knoxville has of course worked with the Farrelly’s before, on the comedy THE RINGER.
The trade says that the plan is to divide the PG-rated ‘Stooges’ film into three, 27-minute segments driven by physical comedy, which Knoxville is known for.
The project was previously set up at MGM.
