Mark Ruffalo to play jazz legend Joe Albany in ‘Low Down’

The big news today is that Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo is set to star as jazz pianist Joe Albany in a new independent film entitled LOW DOWN.

Trade paper Variety report that the film will focuss in on Albany’s relationship with his 11-year-old daughter. It adds: “The Los Angeles-set story will be told from the child’s point of view as she watches her talented and charismatic but strung-out father interact with other eccentric characters in cocktail bars and transient hotels during the late 1960s and early ’70s.”

Jeff Preiss will direct, based on a script by Topper Lilien and Amy Albany, said daughter of Joe who based the movie on her memoirs.

Ruffalo will soon be taking on the role of Hulk in the upcoming THE AVENGERS for Marvel, taking over from Edward Norton, who appeared as the green-eyed monster’s last big-screen adventure.
