Sally Field to tackle the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Spielberg biopic

Following on from her casting as Aunt May in the upcoming SPIDER-MAN movie for director Marc Webb, Sally Field has already lined up her next project, playing the wife of the 16th President of the United States of America in Steven Spielberg’s Abraham Lincoln biopic, LINCOLN.

Daniel Day Lewis is playing the title role in the biopic, which Spielberg is set to start lensing in the fall.

Speilberg said: “I’m excited to be working with Sally for the first time. I’ve admired her films and she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.” Meanwhile Field is just as thrilled about the collaboration saying, “To have the opportunity to work with Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis and to play one of the most complicated and colorful women in American history is simply as good as it gets.”

The film is based upon the book, Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
