Matt Reeves takes another bite at the Vampire

Not content with directing one vampire film with LET ME IN now Matt Reeves will helm an adaptation of THE PASSAGE.

Luckily Reeves will not be treading similar grounds with his new film having taken over the project from Neil Jordan. The book approaches the vampire genre in a completely different way than the Swedish counterpart, resembling 28 DAYS LATER more than anything else. Here’s the book synopsis of THE PASSAGE by Justin Corin:

An epic and gripping tale of catastrophe and survival, The Passage is the story of Amy—abandoned by her mother at the age of six, pursued and then imprisoned by the shadowy figures behind a government experiment of apocalyptic proportions. But Special Agent Brad Wolgast, the lawman sent to track her down, is disarmed by the curiously quiet girl—and risks everything to save her. As the experiment goes nightmarishly wrong, Wolgast secures her escape—but he can’t stop society’s collapse. And as Amy walks alone, across miles and decades, into a future dark with violence and despair, she is filled with the mysterious and terrifying knowledge that only she has the power to save the ruined world. A script has been delivered by writer John Logan (THE LAST SAMURAI) but apparently Reeves will be overseeing a rewrite. But Reeves also might have his attention diverted as he has committed himself to write and direct the short story 8 O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING. So even though THE PASSAGE’s script is more advanced we’ll have to wait to see which will be heading in front of the camera first.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
