MGM and Screen Gems are remaking Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’

Deadline are reporting that a remake of the classic Brian De Palma film CARRIE is pushing ahead over at MGM and Screen Gems. The original 1970’s film was based on a novel by Stephen King, so we can’t actually say that the new film will be a remake, but a re-adaptation of the book.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is going to write the screenplay for the studio.

Deadline says that CARRIE follows ‘the telekinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students.’ The original starred Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Amy Irving and Piper Laurie as the repressive mother. They also say that the new film will be more faithful to the King book than the earlier movie, released in 1976.

Aguirre-Sacasa has a few projects on his plate. He has recently been tasked with rewriting the SPIDER-MAN musical, and will also pen new episodes of the hit TV show GLEE.
