The Ray Winstone Retrospective!

TRACKER stars Ray Winstone in one of the most powerful and adventurous roles of his career to date. An epic manhunt set in 1903 against the spectacular backdrop of New Zealand’s remote, rugged and dramatically beautiful South Island, Tracker teams Winstone with acclaimed New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison. Ray Winstone stars as Arjan van Diemen, a legendary guerrilla fighter from The Boer War who is promised a huge bounty if he can hunt down Kereama (Morrison) a Maori seaman who goes on the run after being wrongly accused of murdering a British soldier. But as the chase escalates, the two opposing men realise they share more than just a common enemy in the British…Tracker is directed by Ian Sharp and is executively produced by Stephanie Pettigrew, Gareth Wiley, Richard Fletcher and former Crimewatch presenter and novelist Sue Cook.

In celebration of the release of Tracker – out to buy on Blu-Ray and DVD from Monday 23rd May, we take a look at some of Ray Winstone’s movies:

Nil By Mouth

Nil By Mouth (1997)
This story of love, dependency, abuse and poverty showed us a family struggling to get by in South London. Unflinchingly depicted by Gary Oldman in his debut feature. Ray Winstone plays a brutal role in the film which saw Kathy Burke receiving a best actress award at Cannes for her incredible performance. On top of heartfelt acting, NIL BY MOUTH also features an acclaimed musical score by none other than Eric Clapton.

Fanny and Elvis

Fanny and Elvis (1999)
Ray plays Dave in this comedy (it’s not all about guns ya’know)about a writer from Yorkshire called Kate. Kate finds her biological clock is running out, on the same day as her husband leaves her. In an effort to deal with the financial crisis created by this situation, Kate takes in car-dealer Dave, who has found himself homeless now that Kate’s husband has moved in with his wife. The only problem now is how Kate can get pregnant asap. Dave looks to be the only option; one trouble remains however, baby names. He thinks Fanny is silly and she finds Elvis unthinkable.

Sexy Beast

Sexy Beast(2000)
In Sexy Beast(note the yellow trunks) Ray plays Gary ‘Gal’ Dove. A Brutal gangster known as Don Logan (played by Ben Kingsley) recruits Gal who is a retired safecracker. According to Don, this is one last job for Gal however it goes very badly for the pair of them.

The Departed

The Departed (2006)
Ray plays Mr French in The Departed which tells the tale of two men from opposite sides of the law. They are undercover within the Massachusetts State Police and the Irish mafia, but violence and bloodshed boil when discoveries are made, and the moles are dispatched to find out their enemy’s identities.

44 Inch Chest

44 Inch Chest (2009)
Ray plays the part of Colin Diamond, in this surprisingly tender (in parts!) British film about a jealous husband who plots, with the aid of his friends to kidnap his wife’s lover with the intention of restoring his wounded ego.

Edge Of Darkness

Edge Of Darkness (2010)
Ray plays Darius Jedburgh (a hired gun) in this thriller about a homicide detective Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) who is investigating the death of his activist daughter. Craven uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence – Step forward Mr Winstone.

TRACKER is out on Blu-Ray and DVD Monday 23rd May.
