Michael Mann set to ‘Go Like Hell’ for Fox

In a perfectly timed news piece (ahead of this week’s big Monaco Grand Prix), the word is that Michael Mann, he wwho directed the wonderful HEAT, PUBLIC ENEMIES and ALI may be looking to sit in the helming hot seat for GO LIKE HELL, a film based around the 1966 Le Mans Grand Prix. The race witnessed a battle between Ferarri and Ford, and would see the American car manufacturer win their first Le Mans.

Variety reports:

Based on the book by A.J. Baime, story follows Henry Ford II — with the help of young automotive whiz Lee Iacocca and racing maven Carroll Shelby — as they set about reinventing the Ford Motor Co. by entering the high-stakes world of European car racing. In a handful of years they would develop the Ford GT40 (one of the most celebrated cars in automotive history) and become the first Americans to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The word is that Brad Pitt may be up for the lead, but the trade adds that no casting considerations have been made by the studio, 20th Century Fox, where the film is housed. Mann is said to be very close to signing a deal for the film.
