Ron Howard to take the driving seat for Formula One movie ‘Rush’

In what seems to be a move possibly due to the  huge success both critically and commercially of the superb documentary SENNA, which is still playing in cinemas in the UK, Ron Howard is looking to direct a Formula One feature film entitled RUSH.

Variety reports that Howard is in early talks for the project, which centers  ‘on Niki Lauda, the Austrian three-time F1 champion who nearly died in a fiery crash in 1976, only to emerge six weeks later, still nursing severe burns on his face and head, to pursue his rivalry with fellow driver James Hunt.’

Peter Morgan (THE QUEEN, FROST/NIXON) wrote the screenplay for the film, which adds extra kudos.

Cross Creek Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Working Title are all involved over at Universal.

Michael Mann is also looking at a racing themed movie, not F1 but Le Mans set GO LIKE HELL.
