Jamie Foxx is officially Quentin Tarantino’s Django in ‘Django Unchained’

This news broke last night, and I meant to get onto the site after returning from BRIDESMAIDS last night to post, but here it is now… better late than never. Will Smith has often been mooted to star in the next Quentin Tarantino movie DJANGO UNCHAINED, but it appears that he has been replaced, by one Jamie Foxx.

Trade bible Variety says that Foxx will Django, a freed slave who teams with a German bounty hunter to take on an evil plantation owner in order to retrieve his long-lost love, Broomhilda. Kerry Washington is apparently up for the role of Broomhilda after meeting with Tarantino regarding the part.

The trade actually says that Smith passed on the role. PASSED? Is he crazy? Well, it’s not as if he needs the kudos of appearing in a Tarantino movie, or indeed the bucks. Idris Elba, Terrence Howard and Chris Tucker (yes, Chris ‘RUSH HOUR’ Tucker) were apparently considered by Tarantino before Foxx.

Leonardo DiCaprio is still up for the villain in the film, while the supporting cast also offers up the talents of Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz.
