Despite poor reviews, box office gross and indeed content, it would appear that THE GREEN LANTERN 2 is about to get the… green light (We’re sorry, but how could we pass up that pun?).
According to thehollywoodreporter.com Warner Bros still thinks the franchise has legs, even though they were ‘somewhat disappointed’ with the movie’s run.
This is particularly maddening for us at THN as 2006’s SUPERMAN RETURNS was granted no such leeway, and that-
A) was pretty darn good
B) showed real potential as a franchise
C) did rather well at the box office
Yet it was set adrift, letting an amazing cast and a promising series go to waste. Quite why our ring wearing chum get’s more slack is anyone’s guess. Here’s ours-
It’s either because BATMAN and HARRY POTTER are coming to an end (we’ll never forget you, Hermione) and WB need a new franchise OR maybe it’s to try to maintain interest in the current release. In telling us that they’re planning a sequel, maybe they think we’ll go see the first one because ‘they wouldn’t make a sequel if it sucked.’
Or maybe they just wanted to give us an opportunity to use that green light pun. If so, Warner Bros, we thank you.
