Casting Rumours for Oldboy

Over at TwitchFilm they are reporting that one of the actors at the top of the list for the Spike Lee OLDBOY remake is none other that GOONIES and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN star, Josh Brolin.

This is a pick that has reportedly come from the studio behind the remake, Mandate Pictures, and not that of its newly appointed director, Spike Lee, as often happens the studio and the director do not always agree. Brolin is an interesting choice, just as Lee was for the directors chair, and has the talent and experience to fill the shoes of Choi Min-shik, the original Oh Dae-su. Question will be thrown around though concerning whether the actor has the box office clout to draw the opening weekend Mandate will be looking for.

Personally I don’t think that it is much of an issue as the star will not be the biggest draw of the film but rather the concept, the director and the original fanbase, which is globally reasonably large now. So I’d like to see the director and studio spend time fiinding the right actor not the one with the largest star power.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
