Define irony. According to an interview with Deadline, RUSH HOUR ‘director’ Brett Ratner is to produce next year’s Academy Awards ceremony. The choice may (read should) come as a surprise to many film fans, who will be wondering whether it’s possible to kill the Oscars stone dead as he did the X-MEN franchise. We shall have to see.
However, this could be calling that Ratner has been awaiting – if the show (which, in all fairness, is usually a fairly laborious experience anyway) is a success, it could be his making (though upcoming ‘comedy’ TOWER HEIST could well be his breaking) Ratner his set to produce the TV broadcast along with returning producer Don Mischer.
