Although it’s arguably the least necessary reboot of any superhero franchise, Sony has already announced the sequel to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, itself not even due out until next year. ‘I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment,’ a Sony executive informed Deadline.
Sony appear to have a great deal of faith in director Marc Webb, his only other feature film being (500) DAYS OF SUMMER, the indie-kid love letter that was a surprise hit back in 2009. It just remains to be seen whether Mr Webb will live up to the high expectations placed upon him already. Only a year to wait then.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is due out 3rd July 2012. The sequel is scheduled for release on 2nd May 2014.
