Harry Potter team to take The Stand?

They have just made the highest-grossing film of all time, and now it seems that Steve Kloves and David Yates will turn to some equally epic material for their next collaboration. HitFix is reporting that Warner Bros are inking deals for the HARRY POTTER producer-director combo to adapt Stephen King’s THE STAND. The original text is one of King’s trademark door-wedge size novels, and Warner Bros are apparently keen to produce multiple films from the story. It has previously been adapted into a 1994 TV mini-series.

THE STAND is an end-of-the-world story, and follows and ensemble of characters who survive the outbreak of a deadly virus. But their are supernatural forces at play, as certain survivors become the embodiment of good and evil.

The material is certainly dark, and undoubtedly epic, two aspects Kloves and Yates had no trouble adapting with the HARRY POTTER series. With lots of current whisperings regarding King remakes/adaptations, they are  a sound choice for this iconic story.
