James Franco talks porn documentary

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES star has been preparing to make a documentary about the porn industry. The film will apparently focus on an as-yet-unnamed porn studio in San Francisco.

James Franco revealed his new project, after speaking of his foray into amateur pornography on Conan O’Brien’s chat show recently;

‘When I was young I got a video camera and my girlfriend and I decided to film ourselves. We watched it back and said: “Yeah, well, let’s never watch that again,”. Those people in pornos, they are great performers; they’re not just doing it, they’re selling it to an audience. They’re performing so that an audience can get turned on by that kind of thing. My girlfriend and I didn’t know that, so it was just kind of like weird movement… It was really boring.’

Recently James Franco has taken time away from teaching monkeys to release a book, an art exhibit and have a regular appearance on soap opera GENERAL HOSPITAL. He has also written and directed a forthcoming biopic about Sal Mineo, who starred opposite James Dean in REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE.

    Whenever I’ve seen a documentary about the porn industry it’s been quite depressing.  Lots of disease (66% have genital herpes vs. 20% of the general population).  Lots of drugs.  More than a few suicides.  Deaths from AIDS.  There are a handful of stars like Ron Jeremy, Nina Hartley and Candida Royale that have been able to make lifelong careers in porn, but the vast majority are forgotten very quickly.  It will be interesting to see if he’s as enthusiastic about the industry after he makes the doc as he is now.
