Empire Big Screen: Universal Pictures presentation

So, we’ve just come out of the Universal Pictures presentation. The studio basically put on a string of film trailers for the waiting audience that kicked off with a look at Seann William Scott doing a piece to camera almost in character as Stifler from the set of AMERICAN REUNION, the next film in Universal’s successful comedy series. Scott reeled off his fellow actors on the movie and then mentioned that we were about to see some footage from the forthcoming sequel… which unfortunately never came. Still, Universal opened up their trailer vault to screen a bunch of movies from their 2011/ 2012 slate.

We saw trailers for THE RAVEN, the John Cusack led Edgar Allen Poe movie, the clean version of THE CHANGE-UP trailer, and then a very early look at the Mark Wahlberg vehicle CONTRABAND, which we were told had unfinished effects in it. Personally, I couldn’t tell and the thing looked pretty finished to me.  The film came across as the type of movie that you could easily put Jason Statham into, obviously in the Wahlberg role. Expect this one to pop up online soon.

Next up we saw a new trailer for JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN, a trailer for THE DEBT, which I am sure that I had seen before and then a look at the recent TOWER HEIST promo. Then we saw a new version of a trailer for THE THING, closely followed by the BATTLESHIP trailer which emerged online last week. The film is released around the same time as TITANIC 3D, which we saw footage for this morning. Freaky that they are both out in the same month. Two boat movies. I don’t know, you wait all this time….. like buses! L:ike buses.

Finally we saw the trailer for IMMORTALS, which hits on 11.11.11. It struck me in the exclusive footage that followed the already seen trailer just how violent and how 300 this is, something shared with my fellow film bloggers tweeting at the back of the Indigo2. Looks intrigueing, and is cery visual – lots of varying speed slo-mo, body slicing, head chopping cartoon action.

So, nothing special, or should I say ‘new’ seen at the Uni panel, besides the CONTRABAND trailer, THE THING exclusive and IMMORTALS stuff.
