Dreamworks to launch new Fever franchise?

Dreamworks have reportedly secured the rights to Karen Marie Monin’s series of ‘Fever’ novels, according to Variety. The first book, ‘Darkfever’, is set to be adapted for the big screen, with a view to create a new franchise from the remaining four books (‘Bloodfever’, ‘Faefever’, ‘Dreamfever’, and ‘Shadowfever’). With the popularity of the HARRY POTTER series, Hollywood has repeatedly attempted to recreate that success with a number of fantasy franchises, such as PERCY JACKSON: THE LIGHTNING THIEF. So far, none has come close to capturing the audience’s imagination in that way, but Dreamworks will be hoping for DARKFEVER to do so, particularly now that HARRY POTTER has ended, leaving a Hagrid size gap in the market.

There are no details on casting on production and release dates at this stage.

The original ‘Darkfever’ novel follows the story of MacKayla Lane, a young lady who’s life is just perfect until someone murders her sister. Mac begins to follow a strange clue – a cryptic message on her phone – which leads her to Ireland. Sheenters a mysterious realm where the lines of good and evil are blurred. Soon, she discovers that she has unuasual powers that enable her to see beyond our mortal world.
