Fast Five’s Justin Lin signs two year deal with Universal

Universal has made a car full of money from Justin Lin’s contribution to the FAST & FURIOUS franchise with FAST FIVE earning over half a billion dollars so its not surprising that Universal has snapped the director up for a two year-deal.

Lin is already said to be in production with the next instalment of FAST & FURIOUS, which will receive a 2013 release but also Variety have detailed what else the director might be tasked with.

Lin will focus on developing elevated tentpole and distinctive mainstream fare for global audiences. Projects currently being developed under the banner include FAST SIX, the spy drama LEADING MAN, the UNTITLED 442 project and a WWII Japanese American battalion that’s the most decorated unit in American history, and an untitled sci-fi/crime thriller project to be directed by Robert Glickert.

Variety also go on to quote Jeff Kirschenbaum, co-president of Production at Universal stating;

Justin’s vision and unique approach to filmmaking have been critical to the continued success of the Fast and Furious franchise…. We know his creative instincts and signature style will make Barnstorm’s (Lin’s production company) partnership with Universal a strong one.”

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
