It looks like Clint and the boys and gals are knocking it out of the park over at Moviehole today! Following that last post regarding the exciting T5 news, the site is reporting that plans are afoot to remake another 1980s classic in the form of ROMANCING THE STONE.
I rewatched this film recently, and enjoyed it immensely, and I think that it could have some real potential in a modern remake, as boy does it look dated now.
The studio behind the film are currently looking for a ‘fresh’ new director to take a hold of the remake and inject some new life into it. Fox are potentially looking at the likes of Gerard Butler, Taylor Kitsch and Katherine Heigl as potential stars. Butler, wrestling a croc? As long as he gets that big f-off yacht at the end I will be one over quite easily.
The original, directed by Robert Zemeckis starred Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito with the story revolving around a romance writer who sets off to Colombia to ransom her kidnapped sister, but soon finds herself in the middle of a dangerous adventure. It had elements of Indiana Jones, mixed with a little BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. It also spawned a sequel, THE JEWEL OF THE NILE. Personally, I loved them when I was a kid. Interested in what Fox are planning with a new version.
