Trailer: The Artist

THE ARTIST, one of the surprise successes of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, a purely silent film, has a new trailer.

Hollywood, 1927: As silent movie star George Valentin wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion, he sparks with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break.

I was slightly apprehensive about the film as it could be a one trick pony, but after seeing the trailer, I can’t wait. The film looks to take all the classic elements of what made silent films great and introduces new filmmaking techniques to increase the character development.

The film is directed by Michel Hazanavicius (OSS 117) and stars, Jean Dujardin (OSS 117), Berenice Bejo (OSS 117), John Goodman (RED STATE), Malcolm McDowell (CLOCKWORK ORANGE) and James Cromwell (LA CONFIDENTIAL). THE ARTIST should be out by the end of the year.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
