Teaser: MTV premieres The Hunger Games teaser trailer

There’s been a lot of buzz about the upcoming film, THE HUNGER GAMES, over the last year and now, thanks to MTV, we finally get to see some footage.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The MTV Music Video Awards had the exclusive for the teaser, which is exactly that, a teaser. The concept of the film has always seemed, to me, like a wilderness version of the 2001 film, SERIES 7: THE CONTENDERS (Dir. Daniel Minahan). What do you think?

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross (SEABISCUIT) from the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The film stars; Jennifer Lawrence (WINTERS BONE), Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT), Elizabeth Banks (OUR IDIOT BROTHER), Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG), Woody Harrelson (FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS), Stanley Tucci (DEVIL WEARS PRADA), Isabelle Fuhrman (THE ORPHAN) and Donald Sutherland (INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS).

THE HUNGER GAMES is out March 23rd 2012.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
